With a focus on giving back to its community, Texas Bank and Trust has stood as a leader in Longview for more than 60 years.
“Our vision as a bank is to create a better financial life for our customers and our community by helping them achieve their financial goals,” said Rogers Pope Jr., chief executive officer and vice chairman of the bank.
Established in 1958, Texas Bank and Trust Company is one of the strongest independent, community banks in the state with headquarters in Longview. Since its beginnings in Longview, the company has grown to operate 20 full service banking centers across East and Northeast Texas.
Through its comprehensive array of services, Texas Bank and Trust has bolstered the Longview community and economy – both in terms of personal and commercial services. The bank’s services include personal banking, business banking, commercial and residential mortgage lending services, and trust and investment services.
“We feel very fortunate that we’ve got a team of servant leaders — of really well trained and exceptional bankers who are passionate about giving back to the communities they serve and serving their customers with their time, talents and resources,” Pope said. “We feel honored that we’ve had the opportunity to do that in Longview for over 60 years.”
Throughout the years, Texas Bank and Trust has received many accolades. It was named the 2014 Texas Family Business of the Year by Baylor University’s Institute for Family Business and one of the Best Companies to Work for in Texas for the seventh consecutive year in 2019 by Texas Monthly magazine.
In recalling some of the bank’s many milestones, Pope noted the year 2008. That year, Texas Bank and Trust celebrated its 50th anniversary. It also marked the first time that the bank’s assets surpassed $1 billion, he said. Today, the bank’s assets exceed $2.5 billion.
Giving back to the communities it serves has been and remains a focus for Texas Bank and Trust. Through its Spirit of Giving Fund, Texas Bank and Trust provides a positive, measurable impact in the community through financial, volunteer and in-kind support of educational, cultural and social service programs in East Texas.
As community bankers, Pope said, it is Texas Bank and Trust’s responsibility to invest back in the community so that Longview remains a vibrant place for families and businesses to grow and prosper.
Pope, who grew up in Longview, recalled a time in the late 1970s or early 1980s when there was a campaign in which people placed bumper stickers on their cars that said, “Lucky me, I live in Longview.”
“I can remember the civic pride I felt at that time — and I still feel that,” Pope said. “I think it’s a great place to work, to live, to raise a family, to worship with our neighbors and friends. It’s just a joy to be a part of this community.”
